Valentine writes to his father, Robert P. Valentine, re: his attempts to enlist, his health, draft dodgers, and life in France. A letter from his father, 1918 December 30, mentions the Woolen Mills, the Michie Company, and the deaths of several Charlottesville, Va., residents from the flu. With the letters is a postal card depicting a supply train from Homer L. Estes, a book of French souvenir postal cards, chiefly of war scenes in St. Mihiel, and a published photograph of Tiflis, in Kaukasus.
